In 1997 when a group of army buddies got together to form a helicopter charter company with a single helicopter, we wonder whether they realised that just 10 years later their company would be at the pinnacle of the Indian airline industry. We have closely monitored the Indian airline industry for the last few months, and the Air Deccan light has been shining brightly. Take the latest survey of flights from Chennai to Delhi for instance:

At 2525 rupees Air Deccan is clearly the cheapest, with flight DN620 scheduled to leave Chennai (Madras) at 0555 and arriving in Delhi at 0825. This is by no means the first time time that Deccan has been cheapest. In the following table we illustrate which airlines have been cheapest in our surveys:

As can be seen from above, there were only two surveys where Air Deccan did not provide the cheapest flight prices. The second cheapest airline in India is Spicejet - it has not been cheapest in only 3 of the surveys.
